The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE School) has certain rules about the necessary infrastructure an international school needs to have to be affiliated with them. Recently, in the Affiliate Bye-Laws of 2018, CBSE has modified a few of those rules, where the process of affiliation is faster and simpler than before. A city like Pune attracts a lot of academically sincere minds, and has a high demand for proper and good education, especially from international schools affiliated with CBSE. Keeping this in mind, the conditions to guarantee affiliation as a Pune CBSE school are quite high-standard.
There is a list of factors that the board checks before approving the affiliation.
LAND REQUIREMENT–
To open a CBSE school in Pune within the limits of the Municipal Authority the minimum land requirement is 2000 square meters for a Secondary School and 3000-4000 square meters for a Higher Secondary School.
LAND OWNERSHIP-
There should be duly registered documents of land ownership in the name of the school or trust/society/company that are planning to open the school. A minimum term of 15years is mandatory in case of lease of land.
CLASSROOMS-
The building should have adequate classrooms with one room for each section of a class with the dimensions of 8m x 6m or approximately 500 square meters.
ENROLLMENT AND SECTION RESTRICTION-
The maximum number of students in each section should be around 40.
COMPUTER LABORATORY-
The dimensions of the computer lab should be at least 9m x 6m and have a minimum of 20 computers with a computer to student ratio of 1:20.
SCIENCE LABORATORY-
A fully equipped Composite Science Laboratory for Secondary School and separate Laboratories for Physics, Chemistry and Biology for Senior Secondary School with advanced equipment and facilities are mandatory. The minimum size of the labs should be 9m x 6m.
LIBRARY-
The dimensions for the library mentioned in the Bye-Laws are 14m x 8m. The library should have a reading room facility and be well-equipped with printers, scanners etc. It should have adequate books for different age groups on all subjects and genres including e-Books, periodicals, magazines, journals, newspapers, encyclopedia, etc.
MATHEMATICS LABORATORY-
With a minimum size of 8m x 6m, the mathematics laboratory should have the necessary tools, instruments, and apparatus.
ROOMS FOR EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES-
Either one single multipurpose hall with ample space or separate rooms for dance, music, arts should be built in the school building.
DRINKING WATER AND TOILETS-
Each floor should have the facility of fresh and potable drinking water. Clean and hygienic toilets on each floor with signage boards and washbasins for boys and girls are mandatory. Also, separate toilets for primary students and staff members are a must.
RECREATION FACILITIES AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION-
There should be a playground for outdoor sports adequate to accommodate a 200m track.
FACILITIES FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES-
The school premises must have facilities like ramps at entry/exit points and toilets for wheelchair users and auditory signals in elevators.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES-
Fire extinguishers, emergency exit, building safety, and transport precautions should be taken care of by the school authority.
